Hubballi: In a distressing incident, a couple residing in Jannat Nagar, Old Hubballi, fell victim to cyber criminals who exploited their privacy and extorted a staggering Rs 6.05 lakh. The couple, both in their early 30s, became targets of a sinister plot orchestrated by a Gujarat-based individual identified as Farvez Shaik.

The ordeal began when Shaik successfully hacked into the Facebook account of the female victim. In a disturbing turn of events, he manipulated photos of the couple, threatening to release them on social media platforms unless a ransom was paid. Fearing the potential humiliation and social consequences, the couple complied with the criminal’s demands and transferred a significant sum of money to Shaik.

Despite their initial compliance, the perpetrator, emboldened by his success, continued to demand additional funds. Faced with an escalating threat, the couple, realizing the gravity of the situation, decided to seek help from the authorities. The Cyber Crime Police, promptly registered a case and initiated an investigation into the matter.
